Teppei Ikehila’s Statement
We will feel happy if every single scenery we see looks precious. So in order to fill all over the canvas with precious parts, I paint Only one and the most inspiring thing for me on the day and keep adding it each day on canvas. Then ``a world where everything plays an important role and everything complements each other'' (In fact this kind of world exists as a matter of course in nature) is born. I actually have been desiring to expand this world beyond the canvas.
One of the landscaping techniques used in Japanese gardens is called ``borrowed landscape,'' which involves incorporating the background landscape into the garden's composition. I sympathized with this idea of ``valuing every inch of the scenery.'' However, the technique of borrowed landscape of Japanese gardens has a weak point in terms of harmonizing with artificial landscapes. For example, you have to worry about the borrowed beautiful natural landscape might be hidden by newly constructed buildings.
Then I thought I wanted to create art works that make every inch of the ever-changing scenery of contemporary world appears important. Here, I have noticed that precious memories are not only found in beautiful scenery. For example, much of the precious time we spend with our children takes place in casual, everyday scenes.
I discovered that by using this way of thinking and reconsidering everyday scenery, all scenery look absolutely beautiful. In this way, I have been reconsidering all kinds of scenery, whether I like it or not.
Even those scenery such as the Scramble Square in Shibuya, Lawson, and trivial daily scene etc……, which have not been attractive to me before.
Then finally acquired those eyes which I can see any kinds of scenery beautiful. So now I have been painting various scenery through those eyes.
I have decided to call it ``Contemporary borrowed Landscape.'' It is this series of work, that redefines everything from nature to cities and people as important, than realizes the world of inclusion.

視界の隅々までを大切に思えた時、人は幸せな気持ちになれる。
私はキャンバスの隅々までを大切な部分で満たす為、その日に最も制作意欲が湧くものを日々キャンバスの中に加えていくという方法で絵を描く。
すると自然界の景色のように「全てが主役で 全てが互いを引き立て合う世界」が生まれる。
私はこの世界をキャンバスの外へも広げたいと思った。
日本庭園の造園技法に、背景の景観を庭園の構成に取り入れる”借景”という技法がある。
私はこの ”景色を隅々まで大切にする考え方” に共感した。
しかし日本庭園の借景は現代の景色との調和に弱い。
例えば背景の山がビルで隠れることをとても恐れなければならない。
私は変わりゆく現代のどんな景色も隅々まで大切に思える作品を作りたいと思った。
ここで私は大切な思い出は美しい景色の中にだけあるとは限らないことに気がついた。
例えば子どもと過ごした大切な時間の多くは、何気ない日常の景色の中にある。
私はこの心の動きを使い、日常の景色を大切に捉え直すと、全ての景色は美しく見えるようになることを発見した。
こうして私は、渋谷のスクランブル交差点やローソンなど、苦手だったものから些細な日常まで、あらゆる景色を大切な景色に捉え直すことへ挑戦し、美しく見えるようになったその目で様々な景色を描いていった。
私はこれを「現代借景」と呼ぶことにした。
自然も都会も人々も、全てを大切なものとして捉え直すこの作品は、インクルージョンを実現した世界である。
